Today I tried the hot chocolate at Lavazza with friends. It’s a upscale Italian cafe in the Loop and Streeterville. I think they have wonderfully tasty foods. When I’m in the mood to celebrate, I’ll get their prosciutto and fig jam sandwich. Their tea and cookies are also a lovely treat.
I tried their Ciocolata Italiana. It’s different from their hot chocolate, which is probably more powder based. This was thicker, a more serious chocolate. Unfortunately, it does not hold up for me. It had the right viscosity, thick and dense, but it failed on the other fields. It had a grainy texture, which made me wonder if it was powdered (but it’s too thick to be so). The taste was odd; it felt like either it was burnt a bit or something essential (like sugar) was missing.
Alas. I’ll stick to the sandwiches and tea from now on.
